THE ANTIKAROSHI present their third album on Exile On Mainstream, their most meticulously crafted album yet.

On their previous recordings, Per/Son/Alien and their debut, Crushed Neocons, they firmly established themselves as a band with longevity, a band who draw upon their roots in DC punk and hardcore but rework the ideas to create music that is at times unexpected and always unconventional. In fact, the three-piece hailing from Potsdam, Germany is the very antithesis of convention, and on their brand new album In P.O.P. We Rust they are determined to prove why.

The Antikaroshi’s attitude and approach draws from a deep admiration for the arts. And when it comes to art, the stranger the better. Their latest album, In P.O.P We Rust is ultimately inspired by an outstanding collection of paintings, known as the Prinzhorn Collection. Hans Prinzhorn was a psychiatrist in pre-WWII Germany made famous for a collection of paintings of his patients.

The band remark on the influence of the art…”in the beginning there was a movie, a documentary about the famous Prinzhorn collection. It became some kind of basis for the songwriting. But it doesn’t end here, during the work, a sheer overwhelming and complex mesh of connections, connotations and associations became obvious.”…the band continues…”The collector’s attitude gave birth to a complete new approach and on the flipside of it all was the dark side.”

The music on the album ultimately explores the power of the past versus the logic of everyday living through an amalgam of dis-harmonics where angular guitars and melodious vocals intertwine with unusual electronics. The resulting album is highly charged, emotive and most of all memorable.

“Clearly focused on creating intellectual music, The Antikaroshi’s debut album takes the dischord of hardcore, translates it into the sprawling structures of post-rock and gives it a sheen of electronica.” – ROCKSOUND

“The Anti Karoshi provide an excellent example of a minimal line-up making a dense and busy noise.” – THE SKINNY

“The Antikaroshi waver between swinging loosness and precision where everything seems designed to evoke reaction and emotion, making for a ride as intense as an angular rollercoaster” – METAL HAMMER

“Expansive instrumentation and considerable changes in pace…an impressive and confident second effort.” – ROCK A ROLLA

Buy this album on LP

available on CD in a matte-varnished 4panel digifile w/ textbook and on 180 g LP (first pressing LP is limited to 300 copies)

Conny Ochs hails from Germany and has been making music for over a decade now in different incarnations – bands, projects and as a solo artist. While local punters endorse and worship his efforts for a while it was the collaboration with Scott “Wino” Weinrich in 2011 and its fruitition in the album “Heavy Kingdom” (released in early 2012) that put the man on the international map and gained him attention outside these local circles while still maintaining his roots.

This attitude now leads into this new album “Black Happy” and as much as the title is nothing short of a hint to the atmosphere the man is able to create it speaks the undisputable truth: deeply rooted in the blackened parts of the human soul he carves a mixture of melancholy and catharsis into the rough edges of songs that come out so natural, so organic and sonically sparkling. While keeping his approach pure to the heart and the creation limited to just him and his guitar Conny Ochs reaches a stark authenticity that can only be worshipped. It draws you in, makes you a part of the music and leads to a deep admiration of the tunes. Or to cut it differently: how can one not relate to these songs?

The pure existence of music so immaculate in its creational proces means happiness. Happiness about the fact that there still is something under the surface and the ancient intention for music remains valid.

Conny Ochs draws himself near this most primordial creation of music – with a pristine commitment to his own emotionality. What is channelled into his music, tone and lyrics is nothing but the truth. Sometimes happy, sometimes sad, sometimes nasty, sometimes nice, sometimes begging, sometimes proud, sometimes cheerful, sometimes bitter, sometimes lost, sometimes found.

Bound to a tradition and history of great acoustic craftmanship drawn over the American continent but not limited to that Conny explores the realms of what of your inner self can sonically be pictured once you are on your own and armed with a guitar and your voice. The path has been walked by many before but it doesn’t make it a worn out road.

Just like the previous album “Raw Love Songs” and the Wino And Conny Ochs effort “Heavy Kingdom”, “Black Happy” was again engineered, mixed and mastered by Thommy Krawallo in Berlin in a pure analogue manner.

BIO

Rare is the occasion these days that we walk up to a show and witness a performance that’s completely unexpected, emotionally captivating and so intensely spiritual. All too often, we see a band regurgitate a sound and/or style that’s not only been done long before them, but clearly put across with much more aplomb.

And now here’s Conny Ochs, shattering that paradigm, delivering a heart-warming brise of emotional approach and honesty as we wouldn’t have expected to see in this life. No, we’re not saying, this is the newest of new music you can get out there. Quite the opposite to be straight up honest. Conny Ochs draws himself near the most primordial creation of music – with a pristine commitment to his own emotionality. What is channelled into his music, tone and lyrics is nothing but the truth. Sometimes happy, sometimes sad, sometimes nasty, sometimes nice, sometimes begging, sometimes proud, sometimes cheerful, sometimes bitter, sometimes lost, sometimes found.

Conny Ochs hails from Germany and this is basically all you need to read about the man. The rest lies in his music.

Info
