Fünf Jahre nach “Under The Manchineel” veröffentlicht die Berliner Sludge/Noise-Institution TREEDEON ihr neues Album „New World Hoarder“: sechs neue Tracks, die die Grenzen von Härte und Dringlichkeit verschieben! Während der Vorgänger „Under The Manchineel“ ein kantiges Biest aus dunklem und donnernden Sludge war, das monströse Riffs und düstere Texte hauptsächlich in Richtung Magengrube abfeuerte, zielt das neue Werk etwas höher: auf Herz und Kopf. Die vergangenen drei Jahre haben bei uns allen Spuren hinterlassen. Künstlerische Reflexion kann das nicht negieren. TREEDEON haben ihren Weg verfolgt und Shows gespielt, die manchen Besucher ziemlich atemlos gemacht haben. Am Ende dieses Weges haben sie ihre Wut allerdings in eine wesentlich politischere Attitüde kanalisiert, die auf dem neuen Album ihre klangliche Entsprechung findet. Die tiefe Dringlichkeit ist immer noch da, wird aber mit herausfordernden Melodien und einem vielschichtigeren Ansatz aufgeladen. Die Texte treten in den Vordergrund. Zusammen mit Drummer Andy haben sich Yvonne und Arne Zeit genommen, eine neue Gemeinsamkeit zu entwickeln und zu festigen. Wenn die letzten drei Jahre einen positiven Effekt hatten, dann war es dieser: Raum und Gelassenheit dafür zu geben. Und hier ist er nun – der Beginn eines neuen Kapitels, das Bassistin und Sängerin Yvonne mit ihren eigenen Worten beschreibt:

Mein ganzes Leben ist mit Musik verbunden. Musik hat mich mehr oder weniger unbeabsichtigt durch das Leben geführt. Gute Zeiten, aber noch wichtiger, auch durch schlechte Zeiten. Die existenzielle Ungewissheit des Lebens auf diesem Planeten, mit diesen Menschen, die glauben, dass sie dieses zerbrechliche Biosystemkontrollieren und für sich ausbeuten können, zwingen uns ihre politischen, kommerziellen und religiösen Ansichten auf, während wir eigentlich nur friedlich und sanft miteinander umgehen wollen. Das ist schmerzhaft.

Ich bin unendlich dankbar, dass ich jeden nächsten Tag Musik machen darf, die mich antreibt. Ich weiß, dass ich damit nicht alleine bin. Ich bin der festen Überzeugung, dass wir alle Arten von Liebe und Kunst brauchen, um zu gesunden, mitfühlenden Menschen zu werden. (Etwas, an dem ich täglich zu arbeiten versuche, mit gemischten Ergebnissen, lol)

Ich werde immer versuchen, beim Songwriting meinen tiefsten Gefühlen treu zu bleiben. Der Versuch, etwas anderes zu sein ist unnütz und kommt für mich nicht in Frage? Warum sollte ich meine geistige Gesundheit etwas überlassen, was ich nicht bin? Ich würde mich selbst betrügen? Es ist großartig, diese Reise mit Arne & Andy zu machen, und natürlich mit all den Menschen, die uns dabei geholfen haben. Danke.

Five years in the making Berlin-based Sludge/Noise stalwarts are unleashing their new album “New World Hoarder”: Six new tracks pushing the boundaries of heavieness and urgency. While its predecessor “Under The Manchineel” was a bristly beast of dark and thunderous swill pounding monstrous riffs and bleak lyrics mostly into the area underneath your chest, the new effort cuts higher, right at the heart and brain, although no less heavy. The five past years left an impression on all of us and artistic reflection certainly can’t deny that. TREEDEON have been following their path rigorously with playing remarkable shows but now come out as a much more political and sonically more demanding act. The sonically deep urgency is still there but gets charged with challenging melodies and a much more ‘no boundaries’ approach. Lyrics become more prominent even though the content of their music always played a significant part in their expression. After drummer Andy joined the band right before the release of the last album TREEDEON found themselves in a situation while feeling utterly comfortable still paving a common ground and allowing influences from all three members to take shape and shine. The past years did allow for this for them being a challenging period for every band but also giving space and serenity for trying things and a natural growth. And here we are, right on the brink of a new chapter, which bass player and vocalist Yvonne describes in her own words:

I’ve been incessantly attached to music all of my life. It has inadvertently guided me throughout. Good times, but more importantly so, through bad times.

The existential uncertainty of life on this planet, with these people, who think they are in charge of this fragile bio-system, imposing their stringent political, commercial, and religious views upon all of us; otherwise free and gentle humans, is painfully mind-blowing.

I am and eternally grateful to be able to be allowed to create music to get me to… every next day. I know I’m not alone with this. I am a firm believer that we need all types of love and art to become sane compassionate human beings. (Something I try to work on daily, with mixed results, lol)

I’ll always try be as true to my deepest feelings when writing a song. What’s the use trying to be something other? Why would I give my sanity over to something that I’m not? Why would I cheat myself?

Awesome to have had this journey with Arne & Andy, of what we have struggled to create, to have had worked with all the incredible people who assisted us to this end result. Thank you my friends!

BIOGRAPHY

Treedeon 2012

Ulme guitarist and singer Arne and Jingo de Lunch singer Yvonne formed an acoustic bit named Treedeon. After Arne was asked to do a solo show at SOM Festival Arne asked Yvonne to accompany and both played an intimate acoustic set as a two piece, not being sure if it would remain a one-off. Shortly after a 2nd gig was booked at Berlin’s Schokoladen where they met C. Böhm who offered to play drums.

Treedeon 2013

A demo was recorded in November 2013 at Ossi’s Freitonkombinat Kreuzberg and unleashed to astonished fans making clear that the acoustic approach of the first giggery was snowballed by a new, but somehow expected monstrous valkyrie of sheer heaviness, duelling vocals and screams in emotional terror. A much louder Treedeon played a first show in their local hangout ‘Franken Bar’ in Berlin. Their second show brought them to the infamous ROADBURN FESTIVAL, as part of Exile On Mainstream’s 15 years anniversary showcase. And what an impression they left!

Treedeon 2014

The digitally released demo began rolling around among dedicated punters and created quite a buzz for the band, culminating in an invitation to play the STONED FROM THE UNDERGROUND FESTIVAL in July 2014. From this gig on, the band found themselves on the map for lovers of Noise, Sludge, and all kinds of heavy pumping riffage, combined with an emotional approach and intimate lyrics.

Treedeon 2015

The first album “Lowest Level Reincarnation” was recorded at Berlin’s Studio Wong in November 2014 and released in February 2015. Gigs at further European festivals such as NORTH OF MAINSTREAM followed, and shows with label-mates Black Shape Of Nexus.

It was back to Berlin’s Studio Wong again; with longtime-friend Andy Schünemann on drums this time (from the postrock instrumental 2-piece outfit Alphatrip) to record “Under The Manchineel” which was released in early 2018.

Yvonne: When Covid hit Berlin in early 2020, Shows were sadly cancelled… (notably, Copenhagen’s ‘Northern Discomfort’) with no rescheduling in sight. Fortunately as a trio, we were able to legally (lol) frequent our practice room, allowing us to work on our third and upcoming LP “New World Hoarder” which we also recorded right there in the cellar thru August 2021
