Es ist schon ein besonderer Anlass und eine ebenso besondere Freude, die 100ste Veröffentlichung auf Exile On Mainstream ankündigen zu können. Wer hätte gedacht, dass wir mal soweit kommen? Und das Jubiläum muss natürlich auch mit einem besonderen Release begangen werden. Deshalb: willkommen zuhause, TRIALOGOS!
Tony Conrads Konzept von Minimal Music als Maximalismus des Ausdrucks ist eine der Inspirationen für TRIALOGOS. Die Musik entsteht aus der Spannung zwischen den Beiträgen der drei Akteure Conny Ochs, Sicker Man und Kiki Bohemia, die aus unterschiedlichen musikalischen Subszenen stammen. Im Zusammenspiel ergeben sich so ‘Trialoge’, die die Ausdrucksmöglichkeiten des jeweils anderen nutzen, sie überlagern und übernehmen. Wie in einer mehrfach belichteten Photographie, erscheinen die einzelnen Elemente dadurch zugleich ätherischer und definierter. Sie berühren und vermischen sich, sie richten sich aneinander aus und lösen sich zugleich voneinander ab. Sie nehmen so die bemerkenswerte Fähigkeit von Geistern an, die in der Lage sind, einander einzuwohnen: eine Stimme, die durch die andere hindurch spricht. Das Ergebnis sind kinematografische Klangflächen, die sowohl helle Interferenzen schaffen, als auch düstere, verzerrte Wirklichkeiten verbergen. Im Wechselspiel aus Assoziation und Dissoziation konkretisieren Klangflächen zu Tracks und später zu Songs, bevor sie vor dem Hintergrund einer durchaus gewollten, musikalischen Momentaufnahme wieder zerfallen. Dabei wirken die Stücke des Debüt-Albums “Stroh zu Gold” hoch emotional. Sie sind das Ergebnis einer kollektiven Improvisation und Instant Composition, und eben keine Konstruktion.
TRIALOGOS sind: Conny Ochs, Sicker Man and Kiki Bohemia.
Conny Ochs ist längst fester Bestandteil der Exile-On-Mainstream-Familie. Zeugen sind seine Solo-Alben und natürlich die Kollaborationen mit Doom-Legende Scott “Wino” Weinrich.
Tobias Vethake ist Multiinstrumentalist und Komponist, sowie Chef des Berliner Experimental-Labels blankrecords. Mittelpunkt seines künstlerischen Schaffens ist das Solo-Projekt Sicker Man. Hier verwirklicht er musikalische Visionen und kombiniert klassisches Songwriting mit experimentellen Klangflächen. Sein Hauptinstrument ist das elektrische Cello. Als Komponist von Schauspiel- und Filmmusiken arbeitete er u.a. am Volkstheater Wien und dem Imperial War Museum London und schrieb Soundtracks u.a. für Muxmäuschenstill (D) und Bye Bye Berlusconi (I). Er ist auch Produzent und Co-Autor diverser internationaler Veröffentlichungen (z.B. Serengeti (US / Anticon), SchneiderTM (D / Editions Mego), Gregor Schwellenbach (D / Kompakt). Außerdem schrieb Sicker Man den Score zum Film Seance (US), dem Regiedebüt von Simon Barrett (You’re Next, The Guest). Die Platte dazu erscheint am 28.05.2021 bei Lakeshore Records.
Die Berliner Musikerin und Sängerin Kiki Bohemia produziert und veröffentlicht eigenes Material und kollaboriert mit internationalen Künstlern unterschiedlichster musikalischer Genres (z.B. Yann Tiersen, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Blainbieter, The Crack-Up Collective). Echtzeitkompositionen, Live- Filmvertonungen, Musik für Kunstinstallationen, Performances und Live-Hörspiele sind Zeugnisse ihrer Affinität zu experimentellen und aleatorischen Aufführungsansätzen und Improvisation (u.a. Documenta Kassel 2012, Schauspielhaus Hamburg, Sophiensaele Berlin, Kater Holzig, Deutschlandradio Kultur).
TRIALOGOS formierten sich zum ersten Mal als Teil der Ausstellung und Kunstperformance Bag:Net in Sassnitz auf Rügen im Sommer 2020, wo sie in einer auf drei Räume aufgeteilten Klang-Improvisation Soundscapes entwarfen, die sich in einem vierten Raum zu einer musikalischen Collage verdichteten. Der experimentelle Charakter dieser Session bildet die Grundlage für ihre weitere Zusammenarbeit.
Als Reaktion auf die veränderten Lebens-und Arbeitsweisen in der Covid-19-Pandemie hatten Sicker Man und Kiki Bohemia im März 2020 eine tägliche Serie von Livestreams unter dem Titel “Cleansing Drones For Locked Down Homes” gestartet. Konzepiert als musikalisches Ritual der Verarbeitung emotionaler und künstlerischer Turbulenzen, die die Pandemie in ihrer Vehemenz hervorgerufen hat. Im Herbst 2020 kam Conny Ochs als Gast dazu und erweiterte die dialogische Herangehensweise um eine dritte künstlerische Stimme und das transzendente Spektrum um einen weiteren Kanal der kollektiven Introspektion. Auf der Suche nach Entkoppelung spielte das Trio in nur drei Tagen (welche Analogie!) das vorliegende Debüt-Album “Stroh zu Gold” ein.
“Stroh zu Gold” wurde im Rahmen des ROADBURN REDUX Festivals im April 2021 erstmals einem Publikum vorgestellt. Dabei spielten TRIALOGOS eine gestreamte Live-Show im Leipziger UT Connewitz. Während des Konzerts wurde eine limitierte LP des Albums angeboten, die innerhalb von 35 Minuten ausverkaufte, noch bevor das Konzert beendet war.
Zum Album-Release am 18. Juni 2021 wird die Show zusätzlich einem breiteren Publikum über Youtube zugänglich gemacht werden.

Special situations yield special benefits and Exile On Mainstream is stoked to announce such a special situation with the debut album of the new musical project/ collective TRIALOGOS. Their record “Stroh Zu Gold” is released on the 18th of June 2021 and represents the label’s 100th release.
Following Tony Conrad’s concept of maximalism in minimal music, TRIALOGOS’ widescreen super 8 soundscapes and occasional haunted house vocals conjure up visions of winter lost beaches, bats dancing upside down and sojourns in permanent dawn. What we hear in these “trialogues” is one word sounding through the other. Like in a doubly exposed photograph, the individual elements become both more ethereal and more defined. They touch and blend, align and dissociate at the same time and take on the remarkable capacity of ghosts: the ability to inhabit one another, one voice speaking through the other.
TRIALOGOS are Conny Ochs, Sicker Man and Kiki Bohemia, each of them coming from different musical backgrounds and experiences. While singer-songwriter and visual artist Conny Ochs is a troubled troubadour of the special kind, who gained massive recognition for his highly praised collaborations with Wino, Sicker Man works as a composer and producer for film and theatre scores and explores the musical field in between experimental pop, noise and instant composition, using and processing the cello as his main instrument. His movie score for Simon Barrett’s (You’re Next, The Guest) directional debut ‘Seance’ will be released through Lakeshore Records on May 28th, 2021.
The third corner point of this mystical triangle is represented by Kiki Bohemia, a singer and autodidactic player of lost and found instruments and toys, who is also Sicker Man’s longtime partner in a variety of different projects, such as the doom duo Slutty Clowns.
The idea for a collaboration first came up in an underground backstage room at the Zukunft Club in Berlin, where Sicker Man, Kiki Bohemia and Conny Ochs shared the stage for a concert. So the three of them got together for the first time in an experimental improvisation as part of an art exhibition in Sassnitz, Germany during the summer 2020. Things started leading towards what is now TRIALOGOS.
In response to the altered living and working conditions during the pandemic Sicker Man and Kiki had started a daily series of livestream concerts called “Cleansing Drones For Locked Down Homes” in March 2020. Designed as an experimental musical ritual to comfort and express emotional and artistic turmoil during a state of emergency. When Conny Ochs joined in as a guest in the autumn of 2020 they expanded the technique of those “dialogues” to include the voice of a “third”, taking collective soul searching and notion of self-transcendence to a further stage. Locked up in their studio in Berlin, seeking solitude and introspection, the threepiece recorded “Stroh zu Gold” within just 3 days, gaining new artistic vision and transvaluation from this almost eremitic kind of lifestyle.
The album was officially presented to a selected audience during the Roadburn Redux online festival in April 2021 as a streamed live show from the stunning location UT Connewitz in Leipzig, a more than 100 years old cinema. The response was just overwhelming and the band left the crowd mesmerized. A first, handmade edition of the album on vinyl sold out while the concert was streaming and was out of print before it was over. The full show will be made available to the public coinciding with the album release in June 2021.
